Wet Weekend

One of the advantages of living in Cumbria is that you can pick your days to walk.

Avoiding the wet miserable days with little hope of those glorious views.  Skip the days when water oozes out of a leaking hillside.  It’s not as though we have booked B & B’s and have to go out.

Could it  simply be an addiction?

At least I am not alone.  On both soggy ‘tramps’, I was with equally idiotic friends, though on Friday there was no one else to be seen on Sour Howes and Sallows.

This short walk picked with the inclement weather in mind was more of an excuse for a catch up chat and lunch.

It  provides a great panorama over Windermere across to the west coast

and down in to Troutbeck valley.

But that was last June.  Friday 13th December 2013 was a little different.

The cloud all but obliterated the valley.

The apology for a cairn on Sour Howes could easily have been ‘mist’.

And the boggy waltz to Sallows really should have been a deterrent

for the detour to this somewhat dubious peak.

These fence posts being literally the most interesting thing to see

until lunch in the Queens Head!

The route, which you can keep for a better day.  Lovely walk for a sunny summer’s evening.  That was Friday, wait until you hear about Saturday!
