Last Far Eastern

A vast colour spectrum from white,

through blue to ochre and green.

Even the grey,

snaking, Kirkstone road,

added to promise

of a great day.

 

Kirkstone

Kirkstone Pass

White veils  slipped down the gullies pulling a little doubt on whether we would be walking through the mist or enjoying a mountain slideshow.

PastureBottom

Pasture Bottom

As we set off up the wonderfully titled Pasture Bottom, our return,

GrayCrag

via Gray Crag,  was still swathed,

HartsopDodd

while Hartsop was etched against vivid blue.

Brotherswater

Looking back to Brothers Water the far hills were opening up with just a little haze

Threshwaite

Threshwaite juggled sunshine and cloud, as the temperature dropped

and the grass turned to icy shards

Troutbeck

An appropriate stop for lunch.  To watch the mercury flow down the valley,

Ill Bell and Froswick grace us with their presence.

Gray

Gray Crag was grey no longer.

Blue, white, ice.

Highstreet

Highstreet folded behind a frozen forest.

A little lugubrious mist remaining,

Hayeswater Gill

fighting with the sun over Hayeswater Gill

Cairn

A losing battle.

In the valley, Hayeswater as smooth as glass.

So we dropped off the snow line with the sun clear in the sky

Gray Crag

and the promise of another good day tomorrow, with my last ‘Far Eastern’ complete.

  3. Absolutely gorgeous, the things we miss going about our daily grind. I love the third last photo, ice and cold in the for front and the warmth on the hills in the distance
