Capture the Colour – in Cumbria

Travel supermarket is running a photographic competition,  five photographs titled the five colours: blue, green, yellow, white and red.  At first I thought it would be a great opportunity to show photos I have taken from around the world that don’t appear in my usual blogs, but looking through my blogs realised that colour, though not always striking and vibrant, is all over Cumbria, sometimes in the most unusual places.

Sometimes we forget the sky is blue here in Cumbria, but at other times the inclement weather can create spectacular scenes.  On this walk I experienced a broken spectre, check the original blog here

Sheep often feature in my blog posts.  They are seldom white and the farmers use ink to identify and to check which ram has been most prolific.  This lady obviously favoured ‘green’.  The full post here

Compass and map essential for navigation on the hills, but the yellow footpath arrows are always welcome.  This post is in softer south Lakeland, in Dallam park, Milnthorpe, a regular dog walk.

Navigation skills were needed on this wonderful winter walk on Crinkle Crags.  The snow played havoc with the exposure, but I love the result.  A sharp reminder of the dangers when we came across a lady waiting for the mountain rescue after breaking her ankle.  Read and see more here on the full post

And just to show it is not just walking and wellies, Kendal Calling is the best small festival.  I went in 2011 and it was an explosion of colour in a wonderful setting.  I love this image of father and daughter.  The tent too, was set the host of Loud in Libraries, an initiative to help keep our libraries by promoting new bands.  Read and view more on the original post, here.
