Walk and Travel in Cumbria and Beyond

Inclement Weather

Inclement Weather

Eventually I have become fed up of the rain!

Finally the wind and wet made me abandon that Wainwright list!

But I still couldn’t abandon the hills totally and dragged poor* (see comment) Jeanette up Loughrigg on Saturday.

The day had begun rather bright blue and breezy but it didn’t last.  Half way up Loughrigg  the wind blasted in from the sea.  Snow swirling in grey air, pebble dashing our faces and causing characteristic leaking of facial orifices.

Only an impromptu embrace of the trig  prevented the loss of my weekend guest!

Having slithered down to Grasmere and Rydal,

dodged a monsoon while shopping in Ambleside we decided to stick to the softer southern fringes of Cumbria on Sunday.

Where spring has appeared.  A walk from Levens, through Brigsteer Woods and over Scout Scar.  Read a little more about it here, when I last walk through the woods.

So, when the weather blasts in to the hills, take a stroll down the softer south.

  1. Hey I wasn’t reluctant!

    • Thank you Jeanette – and to those of you whom have expressed concern – Jeanette colluded in the crazy walk! She is fine!

  2. Beautiful photos, I’ve only seen the Lake District in the summer in either sunshine or rain, never in the snow! #TheGallery

    • Thank you. We have not had so much snow as last year, but then not as much rain as the SW either.

  3. stunning location. I must go!

    • Thank you. It is a wonderful place
