Langdale Pikes

Sunday – how could it be better? After the ‘warm up’ of the day before and the continuing good weather The Langdales were an ideal destination to view more and provide some more challenging terrain. We met with another couple of experienced walkers, Katie and Tony, in Chapel Style prior to starting our walk from the National Trust car park close to the Dungeon Ghyll Hotel.

We followed the Sickle Ghyll side branching off to a side track which took us up to Sickle Tarn. The tarn sits in front of Pavey Arc like a giant stage just waiting for some classic performance, instead ant like people can be seen threading their way up through Jakes Rake.

Katie took Greg up Jake’s Rake. A true scramble, which I didn’t fancy then, and not too sure I do now. There are some good pictures on This page  for any one of a more adventurous nature! Myself, Kathy and Tony skirted round the left side of the tarn and up to meet the climbers at the top of the Ark. And what a perfect place for lunch – and photo’s. 360⁰ of Reasons to be there!

After the break we headed up to Pike of Stickle and Harrison’s Stickle. Three pikes in one day, and I was done! What I hadn’t accounted for was quite how long the Mickleden beck trek was back! Although a wonderful day, if we could have called a helicopter we would’ve. A real ‘beam me up Scotty’ moment. Then, just when we thought we couldn’t make the last half mile back, Katie, who had gone on ahead, came to pick us up by car and drove us the last half mile back to the car park! What joy! Perfect day!
