Raise – Eventually
Having not quite made the de-tour to Raise on Friday I was itching to tick it, along with White Side, from the ridge line north of Helvellyn. I also thought I may have slightly better light than on Friday.
The morning was promising. Clear blue sky in South Lakes, and pretty much all the way up to Thirlmere. Unfortunately the hills had their heads in the clouds and they remained that way until I was back down in the valley.
I did see a little even if not what I had anticipated.
Good signs..
Well built ladder stiles
Several gates
Stunning water falls
High Rigg was at least bathed in sunshine
Unlike …
The flowers were pretty
As was the dew
But there was little to see from Raise
and was little to do except follow the piles of stones.
I met a few people who had camped out. They were wrapped up in several layers. I was in shorts and T-shirts. I did explain it was rather sunny at the bottom of the hill. But it was not until I was on my way down that anything was revealed.
Then suddenly it was blue
For a moment or two
Possibly even the Dodds would not have been a good choice either
So I was soon back to gates
and waterfalls
with butterflies
and signs.
Then as I reached my car – the cloud blew away!
My route – with out the mistakes!
The map you will need.
