Winter Walked In
Autumn slipped in almost un-noticed this year.
Clear blue sky and brilliant sunshine lasted well into September.
October clouds closed in but there was still warmth with trees hanging on to coloured leaves. Then November.
Winter crashed in.
Wild winds banging doors, dropping leaves and trees.
From wearing shorts we were suddenly rummaging around for thermals and winter hats.
Walking has once more become a tumultuous affair.
Moments of calm, harmonious colours in lower valleys
shallow becks turn into fast flowing torrents
Rocks glazed and polished
the first dusting of snow
and the first night of frost
First winter walk, along Dovedale from Cauldbeck.
A ‘there and back’ walk up to the ‘priest hole’ cave, with its fabulous views and waterfalls
You’ll find it on this map
