Mountain Navigation

April Sky over LoughrigBack a few weeks on my Where to Walk blog, I mentioned that I went on a mountain navigation course. The course was run by Stewart MacKenzie. Details can be found on his website mountainplus.co.uk . I went on the two day Beginner’s Course. It was well worth the money and great fun as well. Stewart is very knowledgeable, with a great deal of anecdotal experience to add to the ‘technical’ stuff! Before the course I had not so much been lost, as not been where I intended. Now I am much happier and safer, with my OS maps. As promised, there were no more than six of us, but due to drop outs, (nothing to do with the course) our number on the second day was down to four.

Added bonus was the most wonderful weather. April this year was glorious it is just a shame the summer did not follow its lead.

I had fully intended to progress to the 2 Day Advanced Course, but somehow there just have not been sufficient weekends in the year. May be in 2012?

If you enjoy my pictures and words, please like and share.
