Yet another wet walk!
Thirty minutes from Windermere, 30 mins from Ingleton. What a perfect location! May be I should open a B&B? That aside it does give a really good variety of places to walk. I am sure I am not selling things too well to anyone who is a sun worshiper, as the rain recently has been pretty relentless. But if you love mountains, well it pretty much goes with the territory , this far from the equator at least. So on Sunday it was a case of can’t stop the rain, so where will be as good in the rain, as not. Waterfalls – obvious.
Ingleton waterfall trail was spectacular even in the low mist and rain, all details here, on their site, but be warned. Not a cheap walk. £5 per person! It can easily be walked in under 2.5 hours, even allowing for photo’s. Though we did not stop to eat. Bit wet.
I was surprised to learn that Turner had sketched the falls in 1816, now in the Tate and Wainwright, in his “Walks in Limestone Country” describes it as “Surely of its kind, this is the most delightful walk in the country?” Though having read about his dislike of people, he would have disapproved of its popularity. Plenty of people had thought, like us, to see falls in full force.
Forgot to mention that the Country Harvest Cafe/shop just before Ingleton on the A65 does a mean cappuccino and you can stock up on anything from good quality local meat to birthday cards. Only problem was the dog was not allowed in.
Think I shall have to start mentioning en-route cafes as they do feature rather largely in my walking itinerary. Good places to meet up prior to a walk as well. So I will add a couple to the list now. Wilfs in Staveley is good for coffee and breakfast. Just at the entrance to the Lakes so if your group is meeting up from several directions try here. They let dogs in too. The post office at Chapel Stile, good for Langdales and surrounds. Not dog friendly. If you have any recommendations for cafe meeting points – dog friendly or otherwise, please add a reply – scroll down to find the reply box! What colour coat is the girl behind the water wearing?

I enjoy the falls at Ingleton…as you say..a bit pricey though! Luckily enough a friend of mine lives in Thornton in Lonsdale so being local he can get in for a donation to mountain rescue in the box so usually a fiver gets two or three of us in!!!
A nice sunny day today but as is usually the case not able to get out with camera…i seem to be free on only wet and/or windy days!!!!!
