Seabirds and Seals
Were the highlights of the day. Wonderful boat tour round Bressay and Noss Islands.
Highly recommended.
The sandstone cliffs have been moulded by the wind and the weather for thousands of years into dramatic and beautiful sculptures.
The boat took us into caves to see jellyfish and shellfish. We tasted seaweed and visited the high rise homes of the gannet colonies.
Seals watched us idally, warming themselves in the tepid northern sunshine.
Skua the eagles among seabirds, swooped in, making sure there was no food on board. A change from their diet of fledgling puffin or gannet.
Razor bills and gillimots clung to the sculpted rocks while turns dropped dramatically in for small fish in the shallows between Bressay and Noss.
Remember, look for walking and travel books here! Maps too!

Hi Alvina
It\'s lovely to see your photos on your blog; you captured the skua and the seal much much better then I did with my mobile phone! I was the woman who sat up on top with you at the beginning of the trip. It was a good trip, wasn\'t it? I like your blog!
Happy travelling,
Margaret
